CMA Syllabus 2022 – Changes & its impact on existing and new CMA students

On 9th June 2022, CMA New Syllabus 2022 was introduced by the Institute of Cost Accountants of India. Existing CMA Syllabus 2016 exams to continue until Dec 2023. First exam under CMA Syllabus 2022 from Jun-2023 onwards.

Impact of new CMA Syllabus 2022 on existing and new students – First exam from Jun-2023

Existing and new students of Foundation Examination:

New syllabus is applicable for Intermediate and Final Examinations

(Note: There is no change for Foundation Examinations)

Existing and new students of Intermediate & Final Examination:

No impact on Intermediate & Final Examinations if existing student clears these examinations under CMA Syllabus 2016 in the next 4 attempts i.e. Jun22, Dec22, Jun23 and Dec23.

However, if existing student remains un-qualified till Dec23 either in Intermediate or in Final examinations, then s/he will have to compulsory register for New CMA Syllabus 2022 and appear for examinations under new syllabus.

Changes in the CMA Syllabus 2022

Papers under Foundation Examination: No changes

Papers under Intermediate Examination: Slight change as listed below-

  1. Paper on Taxation is now made for 100 marks as against existing 2 Papers on Taxation for total of 200 marks.
  2. New Paper for Management Accounting introduced in Intermediate course for 100 Marks.
  3. New Paper of Financial Management and Business Data Analytics has been introduced in place of existing Financial Management paper of 100 Marks.

Papers under Final Examination: Slight change as listed below-

  • Introduction of Elective subject Paper 20, under which mandatory 1 subject to be selected from 3 Optional Papers – 100 Marks
  • Students have got 3 choices for Paper 20.
  • 1st choice remains the same for Paper 20 i.e. Strategic Performance Management and Business Valuation (SPMBV)
  • 2nd choice for Paper 20 is to study “Risk Management in Banking and Insurance(RMBI)”.
  • 3rd choice for Paper 20 is to study “Entrepreneurship and Start up (ENTS)”.

Paper 4 : Fundamentals of Business Economics and Management (FBEM)

Intermediate Course 800 Marks (8 Papers of 100 Marks each)

Paper 6 : Financial Accounting (FA)
Paper 7 : Direct and Indirect Taxation (DITX)
Paper 8 : Cost Accounting (CA)

GROUP-II

Paper 9 : Operations Management and Strategic Management (OMSM)

Paper 11 : Financial Management and Business Data Analytics (FMDA)
Paper 12 : Management Accounting (MA)
